The story of my Abdominal Baby

So a few weeks ago I was having some weird abdominal pains. I thought it was just really bad gas so I didn't dare go into the doctor. My sister-in-law Sheri kept telling me that something else was going on because gas doesn't last for days. It finally just went away on its own after 4 or 5 days. That next Sunday Sheri brought to my attention that I was LATE. I didn't even think that there was a chance that I was pregnant because we didn't do anything during ovulation time, or so I thought. Lesson learned...I ovulate late. So I started figuring out what day of my cycle I was on. I realized that it was like day 35. I told myself that if I didn't start that night I would take a test in the morning. I've been known to go to day 36 before so I still didn't really think anything of it. The next day I forgot to test. Like I said I really didn't think I was pregnant. So the next day I woke up early to get ready to go to Bear Lake with a couple of my sister-in-laws. I was looking for sun screen and seen the pregnancy tests under my sink, so I thought what the heck I'll just test. Immediately the test said that I was pregnant. I called up Regan and told him the news and he replied, "You're kidding, really!!!" While I was talking to him I did another test just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Immediately came back positive. We told each other that we don't have the best record with getting pregnant on our own and that we were going to keep it a secret until we found out if it was a legitimate pregnancy. I was so proud of myself...I went the whole day in Bear Lake with 2 sister-in-laws and didn't even tell them the news. It was killing me not telling anyone. Regan ended up telling his 2 brothers Ryan and Rusty so I told Heather on our way to Raspberry Days. I could tell that Regan was excited and didn't have any mixed emotions so I kind of felt bad that I did. I was excited that I was able to get a bargain baby(less than $20,000.00) and get pregnant on my own but I kept thinking to myself, your baby is going to be a big sister in 9 months. My incision still itches from Jordyn's delivery and my nipples aren't all the way healed yet, Yikes!! However, I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited about it. Heather was having me buy ties for taking pictures of him when he gets here. Yes, we were both convinced that it was a boy. We were calling them Tyke's ties. So after having 4 days to get used to the idea and actually get excited about it. I started bleeding Saturday night(8-7-10) I have that date engraved in cement. Regan was pouring cement and we did the girls footprints with their names and date. Of course it was on a weekend when the doctor isn't in the office. I called anyway and they had me talk to the doctor on call. He said that if I'm not in any pain than I can wait tell Monday and have an ultrasound and some blood tests. I knew that it wasn't good...I was bleeding alot. So I waited and waited and called on Monday. They told me that if I wasn't in any pain that I could wait and come in the next day on Tues. Ahhrggg!! So I went in for the ultrasound on Tues. The ultrasound tech said that there was no signs of any pregnancy. The Tech said that maybe I just wasn't as far a long as I had thought. So I went and did the HCG beta quantitive blood test. Later that day I got a phone call from a the nurse saying that the ultrasound shows absolutely nothing as far as a pregnancy but that my HCG levels were really high. So I needed to go back in on Thurs. for another blood test to see what was going on for sure. More waiting!! Then on Thurs. I went in and that office was struggling. I sat in the waiting room for 45 min. The lady forgot to take back my sheet to the lab tech. Finally I had my blood drawn and went on with my day looking at the clock every 30 min. Luckily I have, My health which is a site you can get on and see all of your medical history and lab work. I went on there and seen that on Tues my levels were 3549 and that Thurs they were only 3694 which is still way high for a miscarriage but they weren't doubling and I knew what that meant(miscarriage). It still didn't seem right that they were so high and that they even went up that much so I was concerned. The office never called me that day. They forgot about me again and never showed the doctor my results. The next morning I called and of course my doctor wasn't in the office. Ahhrgg!! The receptionist said that it didn't look like my doctor had reviewed any labs and that a doctor has to review it. She transferred me to the doctor who was going to be on call for the weekend but the lady I talked to in that office was a brat and told me that he wouldn't be able to review my results. so I hung up. I started thinking bull crap I have the right to know what's going on. So, I called back and luckily it was a nurse that I know well. She said that she would print off the results and have one of the doctors there have a look at them. THANK YOU!! So after awhile she called me back and told me that the Dr. said that she was concerned that it could be ectopic and to get to the ER right away if I have any pain this weekend. So that was that. We went to the Fair/rodeo on Saturday with Matt, Jen, Toph and Brittany. I was feeling totally fine except for the fact that I was so stiff from P90X that I could hardly move. We went into the rodeo and after awhile I told Regan that I wanted to go let Skye ride some rides before it got too late. Toph and Britt came out with us because Halle had enough of the rodeo. Which I'm so glad they did. Out of no where. I started having some cramping nothing too serious just enough to make me think oh crap. Then BAM!!! The worst pain I have ever in my life experienced. It felt like a bomb went off in my body. I thought for sure my tube burst. I couldn't talk or walk it was even hard to breath. Some how I was able to get to the front of the fair grounds so Regan could get me to the car. We just left Skye with Toph and Britt no car seat, nothing. Regan drove like a mad man up to the hospital. We got there and of course the ER was filled with people. They must have pushed me ahead of a couple because we got back there fairly quickly. Whoever invented narcotics, THANK YOU!! they hurried and put an IV in and gave me some drugs and I was floating. I felt pretty good. They had me go back for an ultrasound(which hurt like a bugger) after taking a ton of blood work. Over the years I have become pretty good at reading an ultrasound. I couldn't see anything that showed any signs of a pregnancy anywhere. All I could see is follicles...or so I thought. The tech didn't say anything, so after the ultrasound I was telling Regan that I felt like an idiot. I came up to the ER for nothing. Then after a couple of minutes Dr. Strebel came in and said that I had a blood mass in my abdomen the size of a small baseball and that it was probably due to my tube bursting, that I need to go in for surgery immediately. The Dr. was going over complications and telling me that he wanted go in through my c-section incision. He said that we was going to cut out my incision from my c-section and give me a new one. The ironic thing is...When I found out I was pregnant I kept thinking I'm not ready for another c-section in 9 months. Ha ha ha! Little did I know it wouldn't be 9 months but a week. During all of this, nurses were flying into the room with forms and prepping me. I was thinking good heck you would think I'm dying with the way everyone is acting. The doctor was on the phone fighting with someone over an OR. They wheeled me down to the surgical waiting area. I guess that's what it's called because they let Regan stay with me. The doctor was pacing back and forth asking where is the anesthesiologist. I was thinking either this is more serious than I think or he wants to get home and get back to bed. Next thing I knew I woke up in pain and seen Regan and Sheri(Thanks Sheri for going up there and being with Regan. He was scared and I know he was glad that you were there). I heard them talking about what had happened but couldn't wrap my head around what they were saying. All I heard was that I lost my right tube. The one thing that I didn't want to happen! My right ovary is the only one that works right. During In-Vitro, it was the only ovary producing any eggs. My left one only produced 2 on the strongest protocol. There goes the idea of ever being able to get pregnant on my own. Bye Bye Bargain Baby! Hello another $20,000.00 baby. The next morning the doc came in and explained it to me. He said that the pregnancy wasn't in my tube, that it was down in my abdomen. He said that my right tube was completely blocked with scar tissue from my endometriosis and that the embryo probably started to implant on the frimbria(spelling?),(the little finger like things on the end of your tubes) then fell off and continued implanting into my abdomen. The sperm was small enough to get through to fertilize the egg but there was no way that the embryo could get through. So, he removed part of my tube and tied it off because if he didn't it would just happen again. He told me that I had him pretty scared. When he saw that my blood count came back as only 31 and seen the blood mass he thought that I was bleeding to death. That explains the pacing. Come to find out the mass was only 100 and something cc's and that my blood levels were that low because I'm pretty anemic. No wonder I can't get a good tan this summer. I'm still not sure how the blood mass came about. I'll have to ask at my post op. All I know is that when it comes to getting pregnant...I have some bad luck!!! So, that's the story of my Abdominal Baby. It's long I know but I figured that there are a couple of you out there that were wanting to know the whole story and I wanted to remember it so I thought I would share it.

  7. I love that you blogged the whole story. It is your journal you know! How Scary! I am glad that you are okay. You are becoming quite the nurse, you know so much about what your body is and goes through. Maybe you should consider that as an occupation one day. Seriously. Well, count your blessings that you were able to experience child birth at least once and that some lucky child is going to have a better life because you and Regan will be able to adopt them. Best of both worlds, expensive...yet priceless. Take care of your self. You have good support it sounds like.
